FONZ Nature Camp is held in Front Royal, Virginia at The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI). Situated on over 3,200 acres within the Shenandoah Valley, this federal institution is internationally renowned for its veterinary and
reproductive research and its
contribution to captive and wildlife management and the preservation of ecological diversity. Typically closed to the public, it serves as a home for native and exotic, threatened and endangered species. Click here for more information about SCBI.
All of our residential outdoor educators have a background in the biological sciences and experience in outdoor or informal education. Additionally, all camp staff is certified in CPR and First Aid.
Our campers and camp staff stay in the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation (SMSC) dormitory located at SCBI. Each room accommodates up to 3 campers and is equipped with a private bath, and thermostat. Camp meals are prepared and served in the SMSC Dining Hall.
FONZ Nature Camp welcomes campers, families, and staff of all cultures, religions, sexual orientation, gender identification, family constructs, and abilities. We do not tolerate aggression, violence, or bullying against one another. We foster a fun and educational environment by being all-inclusive, reinforcing positive behaviors, and promoting physical and emotional safety.
